The beginning
There are so many choices for how we spend our time. In my time, I have been fortunate to have accumulated many life stories and awesome experiences including planning my own two weddings (more on that later) that I’d like to share with you. I hope they inspire.
I’m an original DIYer who likes to create and always wanted to own a business. I was crafting BP (before Pinterest). When I was 15, I had Wolf Tanning systems catalogs sent to my home and had the exact spot picked out for a business. There was eventually a tanning business put in the very spot and it’s still there today, nearly 35 years later. When I was 16, I covered a cardboard box to build a vanity. My philosophy was, ‘I can do that, and for much cheaper!!’ And, I have been able to do many things on my own including being one of the first Macintosh users, building furniture, opened a coffeehouse/music venue, planned our own travel adventures, and now our beautiful historic home/barn venue. I’ve been able to do so much more than I would have because I saved money doing things myself.
But, I’ve also learned the value of using professionals who are much more qualified than me. Investing in a wedding consultant would be one of those times to leave to the professionals. There are several amazing wedding planners in the area and I would encourage you to give them a look. If you’re a creative type, that still leaves plenty of opportunity to do your own flowers and tablescapes, use a Cricut to make your signs, or have a hand in crafting your own menu, but so many details get overlooked and simply detract from your total enjoyment and engagement in your special once in a lifetime day.
That gives you an idea of how Vignette Farms came to fruition. I love doing things myself, but if I had a do-over, I would use a wedding planner, RELAX, and enjoy the day much more. It goes by much too quickly as it is. Maybe you’ll even be the unusual couple that actually gets to taste their catered food on that day!
Congratulations if you are newly engaged. Cheers, best wishes to you and your new beginning.
